David Lamont Wilson Jr., known professionally as Artyst D, is an alternative R&B artist, composer, music educator, and minister originally from Richmond, Virginia. With a sound that blends soul, vulnerability, and experimental textures, his music speaks to healing, love, and spiritual reflection. Since beginning his solo journey in 2022, he has released multiple singles—including I Feel Love, Aura (feat. Merkury Gold), Right Man, Final Words, Broken, and Mental Escape—amassing over 38,000 streams across all major platforms. His upcoming EP, Inside My Thoughts, explores personal growth and emotional storytelling through the lens of alternative R&B.

David holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from Virginia Union University, where he concentrated in Choral Studies and Voice and minored in Theatre. He has pursued graduate coursework in composition and is currently earning his Master’s degree in Music Technology with a concentration in Film Scoring from Southern Utah University. In 2024, he completed three Developing Musicianship courses through Berklee College of Music.

As a pianist and vocalist, David studied under Dr. Willis Barnett and has performed with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, as well as for dignitaries including a piano recessional for the 24th President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. His mentors Dr. Charmaine McGilvary and Grayland Snead continue to guide him in his professional and spiritual growth as a musician and leader.

From 2012 to 2017, David served as the director of Zion’s Voice Community Choir, leading performances alongside national recording artists and respected political figures, with appearances on both local and national television. In 2020, he became a published composer, with several of his choral works available through J.W. Pepper, purchased and performed by ensembles across the United States and internationally—from the U.S. to England.

He currently serves as Minister of Music at East Washington Heights Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., under the leadership of Dr. Kip Banks. In the classroom, David teaches Music Appreciation and Music Production & Performance as the music instructor at Maya Angelou Public Charter High School, where he continues to inspire and uplift students through the arts. Previously, his innovative music program at Ingenuity Prep PCS earned citywide attention, with one student project going viral and surpassing 100,000 views on social media.

Whether in the studio, on stage, or in the classroom, David remains deeply committed to using music as a tool for transformation. He lives by the mantra:
